Accused robber gets new lawyer, courtesy of victim — his grandmother

YORK – A robbery trial in York-Poquoson Circuit Court took a peculiar turn Tuesday when it was delayed so the defendant could get a new lawyer courtesy of the victim, who is also the man’s grandmother. McNeely and Cody Richard Hill, 20, were charged with robbing McNeely’s 65-year-old grandmother, Shelba McNeely, of prescription medications and causing multiple injuries to her face and right arm. Hill pleaded guilty in August and his sentencing was deferred while he completes a community drug rehabilitation program at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail where McNeely is also being held.
